10/10/2012 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic
Walters continues to show as 1B/RHP but currently projects best at 1B for the next level. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver, displaying clean hands. He gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on his throws but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Tyler shows a balanced approach with rhythm. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with the baseball exploding off his bat when centered as he displays strength in his swing. At the event, he was 3 for 10. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 69-71 with an average breaking ball that displays 12/6 shape with loose spin and gradual break.
06/22/2012 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2
Tyler showed well at 1st base and at the plate during his time in Omaha. He moves well around the bag, he has a good glove, and he fields the ball athletically. He has a clean exchange and throws with accuracy to his target. On the mound, Tyler showed a long / loose arm action, good glove side lead, and he works both sides of the plate. At the plate, Tyler has a solid set-up, gets into a good launch position, and has power into the gaps. He gets good extension through the ball, with the ball jumping off his bat.
01/29/2012 - College PREP - San Diego, CA
Tyler is a tall and athletic first baseman who spends some time on the mound as well. In the infield, he works well around the bag with fluid footwork and gets in a good fielding position. His defensive abilities should continue to develop as he learns to field the ball further out in front of his body. At the plate, he has a tall setup and centered balance with strong hands. His tools at the plate should continue to improve as he learns to stay inside and through contact. On the mound, he keeps his eyes on the target and a long arm action, but needs to keep his front side closed. With two more years of high school baseball remaining, Tyler has the opportunity to continue to develop his skills in preparation for the next level.
