12/27/2008 - Under Armour Recruiting Classic 2008 Tyler is a two way player on the mound and at 1B with a solid, strong looking body that does show projection as it continues to physically mature. He does project well at both positions. Defensively, abilities are solid average as he shows proper footwork around the bag. Glove action is soft and sure as he consistently showed the ability to pick throws out of the dirt, saving throws. Foot speed is near average and does need to get on a speed / agility program to increase foot quickness. Arm strength is near above average displaying life and carry across the diamond but does need to get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing arm strength and raise velocities. At the plate, Wood has near above average ability and power. He maintains solid balance allowing his hands to work freely to the baseball, generating bat speed. Power potential is there as the baseball jumps off his bat when centered as he utilizes his lower half well through the swing. He was 5 for 9 with 4 walks displaying a good eye at the event. On the mound, abilities are above average as he has good tempo and attacks the zone with 3 pitches getting ahead of hitters. He has a solid feel for his changeup and is not afraid to throw it. Fastball shows run and sinking action. He has a good demeanor on the mound with an upside. Tyler will catch the eyes of the college coaches and could be a two way player as he continues to develop.
