07/04/2018 - Under Armour Firecracker Classic 18U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Tyson continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has the makings of special type player at the next level. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.20 runner. In the OF, he displays smooth / fluid actions. Range is a plus as reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. He works to get behind balls but needs to play through more with momentum to his target. At the plate, he continues to shine through an open setup. Hands are quick (89 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He is strong and has strength in his swing with power showing best to the pull side. On the mound, he shows good mound presence with his strong frame. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 85 mph. Fastball showed a range of 83-85 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break and shows a good feel for pitch. Stock on the mound will continue to increase as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 3 years to further develop, Tyson has a tremendous upside with time and room to progress his game.

02/18/2018 - College PREP - Tyler, TX Tyson is an exciting, young prospect who has loud tools all over the field. He puts on a show in batting practice, launching balls to all parts of the park. He is strong and gets on plane early to work through the zone with great bat speed and crush the ball. He is fluid to load and launch and he delivers the barrel consistently to make tons of hard contact. In the field, he goes back on the ball well with good reads and routes to cover a lot of ground. He is athletic to field and plays through to make strong, accurate throws to his target. On the bump, he shows the makings of a front line pitcher with a strong three-pitch mix including a mid 80's heater with hard run, a sharp 11-5 curve and a deceptive change, suing all to carve through lineups. Tyson is a very talented player with lots of upside in the game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
