01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Ubaldo really improved his baseball abilities at the Preseason All American event. At the plate, power potential is now at a pro level. Hands are quick (98 mph exit velocity) and work to and through an aggressive swing path, creating extension. He has loose levers and strength in his swing with baseball exploding off the bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. In the IF, feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through while presenting glove well out front. Hands / feet work well together and he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on throws. Ubaldo has the makings of a special type player with tools that will play at the next level.

11/29/2015 - College PREP - Davie, FL Lopez has a solid build with some fill at 6-foot and 200 pounds. He is a talented offensive player with bat speed and the ability to impact the ball, as evidenced by his 91 mph exit velocity. He hit from an upright stance with high hands and some rhythm to hit. His route to contact saw his hands get a little outside the ball, but he has enough bat speed to overcome that for now. He showed the hand-eye coordination needed to square the ball up and to generate backspin to carry the ball through the OF gaps. Defensively, he worked out at 2B which didn't allow a realistic look at his arm strength. He reached 86 mph raw velocity, and would likely have shown arm strength that looked more like that on longer throws across the infield. He played down low with the ball and got his hands out front. His angles weren't very natural at 2B, and generally his actions do not fit there. Overall, a gifted hitter with bat speed and strength, profiles as a corner infielder.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
