02/21/2016 - College PREP - Stockton (Sacramento), CA Val is a lean OF/RHP who will graduate in 2018. In the OF, he takes proper first steps and proper routes in tracking down balls in working to get behind the ball. He moves well laterally, covering a lot of ground. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on his throws. At the plate, he shows a squared / balanced setup. He tracks the ball well and works to keep hands inside the ball as he utilizes all fields. Hands are quick and work inside the ball as he utilizes the MIF well. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more aggressively. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 71-74 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he pounds the zone with a lot of strikes. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. With 2 years to further develop, Val has abilities with room to continue to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
