04/28/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Phoenix, AZ Valentine is an athletic LHP/OF prospect who will graduate in 2020. On the mound, Valentine gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a free arm and extends through his release, staying inline towards the plate. Valentine shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 82mph with sinking action. Breaking ball sits from 59-62mph with 2-8 break. Splitter sits from 59-61mph with solid movement. In the field, Valentine shows active footwork and fields in an athletic position with soft hands. He gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them consistent with carry through his target. At the plate, this LHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes his stride on time. He is fluid getting into his load and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a level swing with fast bat speed and good extension, leading to solid pull power. Overall, Valentine is a talented prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

01/16/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Mesa (Phoenix), AZ Valentine is a lean, athletic LHP/OF prospect who is slightly more advanced as a position player in his current development. He is a very smooth defender in the outfield with a strong arm and instills fear in baserunners due to his range and arm strength. He shows a good first step and more than enough range to cover his position to track down balls in the gaps with ease. He is athletic to field and works through the ball to gain momentum to his target to show off his strong arm. On the hill, this southpaw shows a loose arm that leads to good movement on his pitches with run on his fastball and downward tilt on his 1-7 breaking ball. His delivery is clean and repeatable with good balance and on time separation to get to a consistent release point on both of his pitches. Staying directional to the plate on his finish will lead to better command moving forward. At the dish, he displays fluid actions with a powerful load and stride to launch a level swing through the zone. His hands are quick to the ball and he makes consistent, line drive contact to all fields. Valentine is an exciting prospect who looks to have a bright future in the game.

07/24/2016 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Valentine continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. In the OF, defensive abilities have improved, displaying smooth actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He reads balls well off the bat and works to get behind balls, playing through with momentum to his target. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power is best shown to the pull side and will continue to improve as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. At the event, he was 7 for 10 with a 2B. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 75-76 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with tight spin and late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with tailing action. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be. With 4 years to further develop, Valentine has the makings of a special type player as he continues to progress his game.

01/18/2016 - Interactive Video Program - Mesa (Phoenix), AZ Valentine is a skilled 2-way player as a LHP/OF. On the mound, this lefty throws a FB & CH from a high 3/4 arm slot and loose arm action. He has smooth separation and repeats his delivery well. He drives his lower 1/2 and works downhill off of the rubber. FB ranges from 67-73 mph with good tail. In the OF, Valentine has aggressive footwork and hustles to track down fly-balls. He secures the ball with 2-hands and has a clean exchange to throw. Offensively, this lefty shows a square setup with an aggressive approach. He takes a hack on a level path with bat speed to and through the zone. He hits the ball where it's pitched and sprays it to all parts of the field. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
