Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2B/RHPPosition Projection

12/17/2017 - College PREP - Madison (NYC), NJ Vance showed nice improvements during his last workout. He is an athletic 2nd baseman who can also pitch. Defensively, Vance has fluid footwork, agile movements, and he fields in a low/athletic position. He has soft hands, a clean release, and an accurate/consistent arm to his target. Getting rid of the ball a little quicker and added arm strength will help Vance continue to improve. On the mound, Vance stands over the rubber well, he has a free/loose arm action, and he keeps his eyes on target. He gets good extension on his pitches and rotates through toward his target. Better separation, more glove side lead, and more command can help mound effectiveness improve. Offensively, Vance stands in athletically, he has good balance, and fast bat speed. He makes square contact, has pop in his bat, and he uses his lower body well. Hitting can improve with a shorter swing and letting the ball travel deeper.

02/20/2017 - College PREP - Brentwood (Long Island), NY Vance is a lean 2B/C and has a promising future on the diamond. At 2B, he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active he and attacks balls, playing through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turns of the double play. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Behind the plate, feet are active as he gains ground and works through a clean / transfer exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times showed in the 2.31 range with accuracy to his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Hands are soft as he lets the ball travel and tracks well, sticking in the zone. He uses his body well through the blocking process but needs to work on his lateral movements to improve abilities. At the plate, he shows a squared / balanced setup with rhythm. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach. Power shows best to the pull side and will continue to improve as he utilizes his lower half more aggressively. With 2 years to further develop, Vance has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
