Official Scouting Report

  • Position Projection

04/27/2018 - College PREP - Potomac, MD Dean continues to improve as a solid 2 way player in the 2019 class. Shows very good offensive skills at the plate. His hips drive through contact, a short, compact swing reflects very high barrel accuracy. Can drive the ball to all fields and flashes next level power. A solid infielder, he can play SS and 3B seamlessly. Quick first step adds to his range, fields the ball cleanly and works his feet through to make strong accurate throws. On the mound, Dean shows continued versatility. Mixes 4 pitches with strong lower half mechanics and quick arm speed creates deception to hitters. FB topped at 84mph with good natural movement and command. Tosses in 2 breaking pitches, a CB (63-64mph) and SL (70-71) that both break nicely and with their different speeds and shapes, keep hitters off balance. Finished with a very good CH (69-71mph) with a ton of sinking action which should allow Dean to continue to impress.

12/27/2017 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Dean continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. At 3B, he displays proper footwork as he works to square balls up and tracks balls well. Hands are clean but will benefit by presenting more out front. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds of the double play. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, he continues to shows well above average power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (87 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact and has strength in his swing with power showing best to the pull side. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 77-79 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

10/22/2017 - College PREP - Potomac, MD Dean is a talented RHH 3B who can make things happen in a variety of ways. With the bat, this strong righty displays a tall stance with fluid rhythm to load. He gets his hands into a strong load/launch position and is ready to attack pitches in the zone. Hands are quick as he squares the ball up with pop, driving the gaps. At 3B, Brown actively works around the GB and into a square fielding position. He presents his glove and tracks the GB into a soft mitt. Transfer is clean with accuracy and zip on his throw (88 mph). Brown is a talented 3B prospect who is one to keep an eye on in this his junior year.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
