Official Scouting Report

  • C/RHPPosition Projection

10/18/2020 - All-In Membership - Birmingham, AL Lane is a hard worker who showed as a catcher & pitcher at his latest workout. With the bat, this righty stands in with an athletic/square setup as he works to get back into a loaded position. He jumps on pitches he likes and shows some pop to his pull-side. Working to engage his full lower 1/2 while swinging on a shorter/more direct path will help to increase pop off of the barrel. Behind the plate, Lane sits in comfortably and tracks pitches into his mitt. Transfer is clean as he works to stay directional toward 2B on throws down with pop times dropping and now at 2.63. Continuing to develop his blocking technique will aid in his defensive development. On the mound, Lane has a 3-pitch mix (FB, CB, CH) coming from a high 3/4 arm slot. He has smooth separation and keeps his eyes on the target. FB tops out at 67 mph as he fills up the zone with strikes. Breaking ball shows 12/6 shape with good action. Changeup has tail and compliments his FB well. Driving off of the rubber more with his lower 1/2 will help to get even more into his FB. Only a 2025 grad - Walker still has a ton of time to progress to get to where he wants to be.

09/04/2020 - MS All-Region Tournament Walker is a talented R/R catcher who excels at the plate. With the bat, this righty shows an athletic stance with centered balance and fluid rhythm to load. Hands are quick as swing is short/compact to and through the zone as he connects and squares the ball up consistently, hitting hard line-drives. Behind the plate, he sits in well and tracks pitches into a soft mitt. He takes good angles laterally and works to center pitches in the dirt off of his chest. Lane has a solid skill-set with a ton of upside on the diamond.

01/17/2020 - Baseball Factory's Spring Training at Pirate City (Ages 12-14) Walker is a coachable C/3B prospect who worked hard on his skills during the Spring Training at Pirate City. Behind the plate, Walker presents a good target to the pitcher and tracks the ball into his glove. Sitting in a more athletic stance can help Walker improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a square stride. He is controlled getting his hands activated in his load and drives through well with his lower half. He generates fast bat speed through the zone, leading to solid line drives. Walker can improve as a hitter by getting more extension through the ball. Overall, Walker is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

11/17/2019 - Interactive Video Program - Montgomery, AL Walker is an athletic, 2-way player who plays 3B and catcher. In the INF, Walker has active feet, agile movements, and he fields athletically. He has a presentable glove, a quick exchange, and he throws with momentum and a quick release across the diamond. Behind the plate, Walker covers ground well, he tracks to his glove, and throws accurately to his target with pop times as low as 2.17 seconds. At the plate, this RHH has a tall/square stance, good balance, and he takes a square stride toward the pitcher. He has a consistent/direct barrel, he can spray to all fields, and he uses his lower body. Overall skills can continue to get better with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
