09/07/2014 - National Tryout - Indianapolis, IN Walter continues to show improvements in his baseball tools across the board and shows the makings of a special type player at the next level. Foot speed his improve as he range his best 60 time to date, now a well above average runner at 7.0. Defensive grade in the MIF has improved, now showing well above average abilities as he displays smooth / athletic actions. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process and he moves well laterally, displaying range in the MIF. Throws are accurate with life and on line carry across the diamond as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, hitting / power grades are now well above average through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating bat speed to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball exploding off the bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 86 mph. Fastball showed a range of 83-86 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball is outstanding, displaying 11/5 shape with late / sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with arm side run. Off speed stuff are quality pitches that will get outs at the next level. Command/control are well above average as he throws strikes with all his pitches and attacks hitters.

09/01/2013 - College PREP - Indianapolis, IN Walter is an athletic 2-way player (SS/RHP) with a solid all-around skill set. On the bump, he excels with a 3-pitch mix filling up the zone throwing strikes. FB tops out at 84 mph and shows heavy action. He shows plus command and can locate his pitches to both sides of the plate. He also throws a curveball and screwball. Screwball shows good sinking action and run, proving the be a good out pitch. Defensively at SS, Walter takes good pre-pitch steps to get into an athletic fielding position. He works around the ground ball and has a clean exchange, getting the ball across the diamond quickly. Offensively, Talcott shows a solid base and good balance. He tracks the ball into the zone and delivers the barrel through a short/quick path. He will fit the lead-off type mold thanks to his speed and ability to put the ball in play consistently.

11/11/2010 - Pirate City Select Training Walter is a young, thin, 2-way player who Pitches and plays 2nd base. He currently projects better in the INF, but still has a lot of time to progress at both positions. In the INF, Walter has good hands and he makes all the plays. He tries to field out in front, and throws with accuracy and decent carry to his target. Defensive grades can rise with improved / quicker feet, more aggressiveness, and a higher arm slot. On the mound, Walter repeats his delivery, he keeps the ball down in the zone, and his pitches move. He is around the zone with all of his pitches, he pitches to contact, and he has the makings of a very good CB. Mound effectiveness will get better by working to his balance point better, more leg kick, and continuing to add arm strength. Offensively, Walter is a contact hitter with a good eye for the zone. He is mostly a singles hitter who puts the ball in play and can run the bases well. Hitting will improve with better barrel accuracy, T work, and added arm strength.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
