03/01/2020 - Accelerated College PREP - Wilson, NC Wells is an athletic SS/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2023. In the field, Wells shows active footwork and moves well laterally. He gets into an athletic position and fields with soft hands. He makes a clean exchange and keeps his throws accurate and on-line to his target. Long tossing to build up his arm strength can help Wells improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a square stride. He shows smooth rhythm and drives through well with his lower half. He gets good extension through the ball with fast bat speed, leading to consistent contact and line drives. Wells can improve as a hitter by working more of a load into his swing. On the mound, Wells gathers over the rubber and works with a clean arm. He strides inline towards the plate and finishes with a controlled landing. Wells shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 71mph. Breaking ball sits from 59-61mph with 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 67-69mph as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Separating his hands earlier in his motion can help Wells improve as a pitcher. Overall, Wells is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
