01/17/2014 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Wesley continues to impress. A switch hitting backstop with a strong arm is a great addition to any team. Transfer/exchange is quick as he gains ground toward 2B with pop times as low as 1.91. Runners will not want to test his cannon for an arm. At the plate, he has a tall/open stance as he waits for his pitch. He has a good feel for the barrel working to square everything up. He shows some pop as he likes to turn on the pitch on the inner 1/2. An exciting prospect with solid all-around tools who has a bright future on the diamond.

01/18/2013 - 2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Wesley displayed his best pop times to date at the Pre-Season All-America Tournament. His strong setup and quick release paired with some arm strength found his times getting as low as 2.06. He receives well and deadens balls while blocking. Offensively, the switch hitter has a crouched/square setup and displays good bat speed from both sides of the dish. From the left side he is patient and has a middle approach. On the right side he has pull side pop and has a tendency to roll over. He is nearly identical from both sides, but is undisciplined to pull from his right side. Overall, Wesley projects well as a backstop at the next level, and with his ability to switch hit could find himself in the middle of a line-up.

08/09/2011 - College PREP - Bear (Wilmington), DE Wesley is a switch hitting catcher with a thin / athletic frame. Behind the plate, Wesley has soft sure hands, fluid feet, and he sits low to the ground. He has good lateral movements, he covers the 5 hole well, and he gains ground. Wesley has a quick / clean exchange, and he throws with a short arm action with accuracy and average strength to his target. Defensive grades can improve if Wesley can improve catching abilities by widening his base, not standing straight up to throw, and by smoothing out his arm action. Offensively, Wesley has a square / athletic set-up, a short stride, and he repeats his swing well. He has average bat speed, he puts the ball in play, and is currently better from the left side. More direct hands to the ball, improved extension, and better rhythm / timing will help improve numbers from both sides of the plate.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
