Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • C/RHPPosition Projection

01/16/2009 - Under Armour Pre-Season All America - 2009 Wesley is a two position player with a good feel behind the plate and on the mound. As a catcher we saw his pop times in the 2.03-2.10 range. He gains ground and his carry is solid. Would like to see him stay on top of the throw more consistently. Exchange has room to quicken. He centers the ball in the dirt well and is quick on the recovery. At the plate he has an unconventional approach with a lower load of the hands. But his batspeed is good and he has some gap power—mainly to the pull side. Has some lower half collapse which pulls him off of the ball. Would like to see him stay taller on his backside and be more directional with his hands. On the mound he ran his fastball in the 83-88 range. Threw a decent sweeping breaking ball and a pretty good change with some fade to it. He gets good extension with a loose arm and mature overall actions. Solid player at both spots.

01/11/2008 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2008 Wesley is a young player with plenty of time to increase ability. On the mound, shows some arm strength and some balance. Delivery is loose and he throws a lot of strikes. Needs to work on off speed pitches to become an effective pitcher. Could utilize lower half in delivery to increase power potential. Swing is level with balance and strong hands. Has an inconsistent lower half which effects power and contact. Has soft hands behind the plate and solid arm action. Pop times are approaching the sub 2-second range. Needs work on footwork in order to maximize throwing motion. Frank is still young and could use some instruction to hone skills and increase stock. He was also battling through a football injury at this event.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
