09/24/2011 - Accelerated Pitching/Catching Weekend
Wes has a very loose delivery with good arm action. He does have a tendency to slow his arm down on off-speed pitches, where he should work on his grip to achieve the velocity differential. By keeping his arm-speed up he will have later life and more action on his pitches. Wes also needs to continue to work on loading and exploding his backside through his motion. This will help him get better velocity on his pitches.
06/23/2011 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 2
Swanson showed similar abilities both on the mound and in the infield in Omaha. He has a fluid delivery, good hip coil, and solid front side action. He has a quick arm action, a solid feel for his off-speed, and gets good extension on his pitches. Wesley improved both his delivery and control grades at the event. In the infield, Wesley attacks the ball aggressively, fields the ball out front, and makes plays. He works around the ball well, plays through, and has a good arm with carry to his target. Offensively, Wesley showed a good set-up and a decent swing path. He is a contact hitter with a good eye at the plate.
04/10/2011 - College PREP - Philadelphia, PA
Wesley is a young, average sized SS / RHP who will graduate in 2013. Defensively, Wesley has soft / sure hands, efficient footwork, and he shows range to the glove side. He makes the routine plays consistently, gathers himself well, and his exchange is clean. Wesley has a long arm action, and he throws with average strength, and good accuracy to his target. Defensive tool grades can further improve with quicker actions, by fielding in a lower position, and by not standing straight up to throw. On the mound, Wesley has a long, free arm circle, a controlled balance point, and on-time separation. He has a smooth delivery, level shoulders, and he lands in a square position. Wesley bends his back properly, and can get better on the mound with sharper command, and added velocity. At the plate, Wesley has a tall / square set-up, proper load, and a short stride. He has good balance, average bat speed, and he is short to the ball. Wesley has a line drive swing, and he has pop to the pull side. Looser actions, more direct hands to the ball, and added bat speed will help numbers rise.
