Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/OFPosition Projection

01/13/2012 - 2012 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Weston showed well during the Pre-Season, especially on the mound. He has a free / loose arm, good balance, and his FB touched 87 mph. He has on-time separation, level shoulders, and he works quickly. Weston has solid off-speed pitches, he throws strikes, and he gets outs. In the OF, Weston has athletic action, soft hands, and he works behind the ball well. He fields ground balls on the glove side, his exchange is clean, and he throws with a long arm action with some carry to his target. At the plate, Weston has good balance, bat speed, and he stays inside the ball well. He has a good bat angle, he makes contact, and he is quick down the line. He currently projects best on the mound and has the makings to be a special player at the next level given his velocity, mechanics, and effectiveness of his offspeed pitches.

05/15/2011 - College PREP - San Antonio, TX Weston showed improvements on the mound during his last workout in San Antonio, TX. He lowered his 60 time from 7.51 to 6.98, and increased his radar velocity from 78 to 83 MPH. On the mound, Weston has a tall, athletic build, a free / sound arm action, and he works to his balance point well. He repeats his delivery, his separation is smooth, and he works in good rhythm. Weston keeps his shoulders level, he has good direction toward home, and he lands in an athletic / complete position. More extension on his pitches, and sharpening his off-speed stuff should continue to help mound effectiveness rise. At the plate, Weston has a square / athletic set-up, a proper load, and direct hands to the ball. He has a good bat angle and he makes consistent contact. More use of the lower half and better finish on his swing will help his hitting improve as well. The athletic indicators (6.98 60 and 83 mph arm strength) are definitely there for Weston and with hard work and continued development, he should make a good addition to a college program after high school.

06/13/2009 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 1 Weston is a young, 2013 graduate two-way player on the mound and in the OF with a thin frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature and fill out. Currently, he projects best in the OF. Foot speed is average and he will benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active in taking proper routes and angles in tracking down ball in the OF displaying solid average defensive abilities. Arm strength is solid average displaying carry on throws. He needs to get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength, raising velocities. At the plate, hitting abilities are solid average with slightly above average power through a balanced approach. He shows a feel for the barrel with power improving as more overall body strength is developed. He was 2 for 7 at the event with a successful squeeze. On the mound, fastball is flat, sitting at 75-77. Off speed pitches are slightly above average. Breaking ball displays a 12/6 downward shape with tight spin. Changeup shows solid feel with late sinking action. Stock on the mound will rise quickly as more arm strength is developed. With 4 years to further develop, King has the makings to be a solid player as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
