Official Scouting Report

  • LHP/1BPosition Projection

10/28/2018 - College PREP - Santa Rosa, CA Weston is an athletic LHP/1B who has a promising future on the diamond. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. He shows good tempo through a strong balance point and throws from a high arm slot. Fastball showed a range of 70-72 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with late / sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup and shows a plus feel for pitch with arm side run. Slider is harder with tight spin and short break. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs at the next level. Control is well above average as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At 1B, he displays smooth fluid actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft and presents well out front. He displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. At the plate, hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. With 3 years to further develop, Weston has the making of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches, possibly as a two-way guy as he continue to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
