Official Scouting Report

  • RHP/1BPosition Projection

05/08/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Madison, WI Weston continues to work hard on his skills. On the mound, this RHP has sound mechanics and repeats his delivery well. He has smooth separation and works in-line toward the dish. FB still sits in the upper 60's low 70's and will continue to climb as he adds more arm strength. Breaking ball is thrown for strikes showing 12/6 shape. He works to keep his CH down in the zone which will result in GB outs. At 1B - Weston hustles into a square fielding position behind the GB. He tracks the ball into his mitt and gathers well. He is a big target at 1B who moves well around the bag. With the bat, this righty shows a balanced setup with a solid base. He whips the barrel on a level path and connects with strength, driving the ball on a line. More power potential is in there as he works to engage and utilize his full lower 1/2. A 2018 grad - Weston has tools with still time to fine tune them to get to where he wants to be.

11/05/2015 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Weston is a 2018 2-way player with a tall, long-limbed frame. On the mound, he throws from the overhead slot with excellent downhill movement. He works with quick rhythm and keeps hitters off balance with his 10-4 CB. His FB sits in the low 70s with command down in the zone. In the OF, he works to balls with some range and active feet. He is aggressive on the slow roller and as he works to follow his throws, his ball will show more life to the cut off man. Offensively, Weston hits from an open stance with good timing on all pitches. He works the count and gets the pitch he likes. In all, Weston has time on his side to develop his skills as he is only entering his sophomore season.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
