Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

10/29/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Pittsburgh, PA Will showed nice overall improvements in his game during his workout in Pittsburgh. 60 time dropped, radar velocity increased to 75 MPH, as well as defensive and offensive numbers spiked. At SS, Will showed fluid footwork, good range, and he plays through the ball well. He has a quick/clean exchange, and a short/loose arm with carry and consistency to his target. On the hill, Will increased velocity to 75 MPH, showing a rhythmic delivery, a loose arm action, and good extension. His off-speed show well, he is in the zone, and he finishes off his pitches well. At the plate, Will has a square/athletic set-up, good balance, and a still head. He swings in good rhythm and has good feel for the barrel.

07/18/2017 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Will continues to show a promising future on the diamond. On the mound is where he projects best. Delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work loose / free to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 68-71 mph. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for pitch with sinking action. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At 3B, he displays proper footwork and moves well laterally. Hands are clean and presents well out front. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls but will benefit by playing through with his body. Range will continue to increase as he increases foot quickness.

06/19/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Charleston, WV Will is a (5'9''/130) RHP/SS. Defensively at SS, he shows active footwork as he creates solid angles to the baseball. He comes up with a clean transfer and makes accurate throws to his target. On the mound, this righty gathers over the rubber and has a 3-pitch arsenal. He gets to a tall balance point, delivers from a lo 3/4 arm slot and works in line towards home plate. With the bat, Will displays a square setup and gets back into a good load. He swings on a short-direct path through the zone and barrels up pitches driving them on a line. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Get square on GB's
2. Develop soft hands
3. Work around the GB
Pitching
1. Develop CB
2. Keep eyes on target
3. Arm strength (long toss)
Offense
1. Develop rhythm
2. Lower 1/2 drive
3. Drive pitch the other way

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
