Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2B/RHPPosition Projection

04/08/2018 - College PREP - Plano (DFW), TX Will showed at 2B and on the mound for the first time at the event. At 2B, he shows smooth / clean actions. He displays proper footwork in creating proper angles in attacking and playing through balls with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and takes a square stride. He shows a fluid rhythm and comes through well with his lower half. He takes a level swing with decent bat speed (80 mph exit velocity) and stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. He shows good tempo through a strong balance point and throws from a arm slot. Fastball showed a range of 64-70 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action butt throws too hard to fastball velocities. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

12/27/2017 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Will continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a bright future on the diamond. At the plate, hitting / power potential have improved through a tall setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. At 2B, he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active / aggressive as he takes good first steps in attacking the baseball. Glove action is soft / clean and presents well out front. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turns of the double play. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard.

11/05/2017 - College PREP - Plano (DFW), TX Will is a young, projectable 2B prospect with the frame and skills that should lead to impressive development. He makes all the plays at second with clean hands and feet to get to the ball and funnel it in. He has great energy on the field which leads to the range to make tough plays, fielding with firm hands to keep everything in front. He has feel for the DP feed and turn, making on target feeds and quick turns to throw accurately. At the plate, he shows an aggressive approach looking for a pitch to drive. He loads to a power position and strides on time to launch on a level path through the zone and hit the ball gap to gap. Using his lower half more will lead to more bat speed and hard hit balls. Will is a prospect we look forward to watching continue his development.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
