01/01/2013 - 2013 Baseball Factory Top 100, powered by Under Armour Physical specimen with a big left-handed swing. Has some hand speed that leads to power, and has the defensive package to play RF.

06/13/2012 - 2012 Team One Florida Showcase William showed well both offensively and defensively during Team 1 Florida. He has easy defensive actions, quick feet, and a long / loose arm action with carry through to his target. Offensively, William has a balanced, easy approach, a loose swing, and he can work the ball gap to gap with carry. Abreu is a solid, talented player.

10/01/2011 - Team One Futures East 2011 Abreu featured an athletic setup and rhythm to hit. Bat worked loose and easy through the zone, with bat speed and barrel accuracy. Showed power to gaps and ability to see ball well against tough LHP. Outfield actions were athletic, ran 7.00 60yds, arm showed near average to average on ML 20-80 scouting scale. University of Miami commit.

07/15/2011 - Team One South 2011 Abreu continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities, still projecting best in the OF. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an outstanding runner at 6.88. Defensive grades in the OF have improved to superior as he utilizes his quick, athletic feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls as he reads balls well off the bat. He moves well laterally, displaying plus range and works to get behind balls to play through with momentum to his target. Offensively, William shows a solid lower half with quick hands that generate plus bat speed. He has strength in his swing with baseball exploding off his bat when centered. At the event, he was 1 for 4 and made solid barrel contact each at bat. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 81-83 mph. Off speed pitches are slightly above average, needing further development to be quality pitches at the next level.

01/23/2011 - College PREP - Delray Beach, FL William is a young two-way player in the OF plus on the mound with a very athletic frame that is well suited for his positions. Currently, he projects best in the OF for the next level because of his explosive bat and athleticism though he is effective on the mound as well. Foot speed is a well above average as indicated by his 7.15 60 time and he utilizes his quick, athletic feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He reads balls well off the bat and works to get behind balls playing through with momentum to target. Throws are accurate through a long arm action. Offensively is where Abreu shows best through an aggressive approach. He displays a plus feel for the barrel with the baseball exploding off his bat when centered. Power is well above average and he will hit at the next level without question. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 80-82 mph with sinking action on a downhill plane. Changeup is best off speed pitch showing solid feel for with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with sweeping action. With 2 years to further develop, William has a big upside as an everyday player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
