01/18/2019 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City William is a hardworking and talented 2020 catching prospect. Behind the dish, William presents a big target and tries to work behind the ball when receiving. Finding a balanced primary and athletic secondary stance will put him into a strong position to control the ball when receiving. He needs to continue to exchange the ball in front of his body and create momentum in his lower half when throwing to improve accuracy. He has a tendency to pull his head when blocking. Continuing to lead with the glove and creating a good spine angle over the ball will make him a more efficient blocker. Building arm strength in his throwing program and creating flexibility in his hips will improve his overall ability to throw. At the plate, William starts in a squared stance, he has a small load, and he rotates his core into the ball. He has good hand eye coordination and a compact swing. He needs to continue to attack the inside part of the ball, hunt the fastball, and create backside drive in his lower half. William will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

10/21/2018 - College PREP - Stillwater (Minneapolis), MN William is a solid, strong C/3B who will graduate in 2020. Behind the dish, he utilizes his feet well in working in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times show a range of 2.48-2.66 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to get rid of the baseball quicker. He displays a soft glove and sticks balls well in the zone. He uses his body through the blocking process but will benefit by working to get body down sooner. At 3B, feet are active as works to square ball up but needs to attack balls more and play through with his body. Glove action is clean but will benefit by presenting out front. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. With 2 years to further develop, William has abilities with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
