07/07/2012 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 1 Burns continues to show as a catcher and displays a solid setup behind the plate. His hands work well through the receiving process but needs to stick balls more in the zone. Blocking skills will improve as he increases his agility and foot speed. Pop times showed in the 3.78 range as he needs to build more arm strength and work to get rid of the ball quicker to continue to lower times. At the plate, William shows a balanced setup with rhythm. He loads well and gets into a solid launch position. Swing path is level and he makes consistent contact. For hitting / power grades to continue to improve, he needs to increase bat speed and use his lower half more.

01/14/2011 - Pirate City Spring Training - 2011 Will is a small framed Catcher / RHP with good aggressiveness and instincts. Behind the plate, Will has soft hands, looks the ball in, and catches strikes. He has a long arm action, average arm strength, and he throws with good accuracy to his target. On the mound, Will has sound mechanics, he works hard, and has good mound presence. He pounds the zone with strikes and fields his position well. Offensively, Will is an aggressive hitter with a short, level swing. He showed good balance, a good load, and makes consistent contact. Below is what Will needs to work on in order to improve his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
