Official Scouting Report

  • LHP/1BPosition Projection

12/20/2014 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 William continues to show well on the diamond. During his time in Pirate City he showed his versatility with the ability to make things happen on the bump as well as at the dish. On the mound, FB continues to pound the zone at 81 mph showing a downward angle. He gets good glove side lead with solid all-around mechanics. With the bat, William shows a tall/square setup with balance. He hits the ball where it's pitched and drives it with pop to all fields. Driving his lower ½ will help him tap into even more power potential. At 1B, Hesslink has good bag awareness with the ability to pick it. He is a big target and doesn't let much get by. William has skills with a high ceiling - he is a player to keep an eye on.

11/09/2014 - College PREP - Middletown (Hartford), CT William is a big, strong LHP/1B that will graduate in 2016. Currently, he projects best at 1B for the next level but has an upside on the mound. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying outstanding hitting abilities with well above average power potential through an athletic setup with balance. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed as he attacks the ball through a level swing path. He has leverage in his swing with strength as the baseball explodes off the bat when centered, as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power potential is present to all fields. At 1B, defensive grade are well above average as he shows proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are soft / clean and he consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. Throws are accurate with life and on line carry as he works to get rid of the ball quickly. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 79-81 mph. Slider displays 1/7 shape with late break and shows as a quality pitch when he stays on top. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches, attacking hitters. Stock to the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. With 2 years to further develop, William has a the makings of a special type player and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities, possibly as a two-way player.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
