01/17/2020 - 2020 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament William is an athletic 2B/OF prospect who showed well at the Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament. In the field, William takes a good first step and shows active footwork. He gets into a square position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and gains ground well on his throws, keeping them accurate with good backspin through his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and takes a square stride. He is on time getting into a simple load and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a level swing with fast bat speed, leading to loud contact and great raw power. Overall, William is a talented prospect who has the skill set to contribute at the next level.

10/09/2019 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic William is a coachable 2B prospect who showed well during the Arizona Fall Classic. In the field, William takes a good first step and shows smooth footwork. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front with soft hands. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them accurate with carry through his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a soft stride. He gets his hands activated on time and is explosive driving his lower half through. He takes a level swing with fast bat speed, leading to loud contact and line drives. Overall, William is a talented prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

07/24/2019 - Under Armour Southwest Championships 17U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One William is a speedy 2B that continues to develop. In the infield William shows quick footwork with a +1st step to the ball. He fields low and athletic getting a quick exchange to get rid of the ball. His arm action is loose making accurate throws around the diamond with good backspin. At the plate, William shows a slightly open stance and is a line drive, gap to gap hitter. His strength is getting the barrel on plane, making hard contact by creating good hip/shoulder separation. William continues to show as a solid 2B that has the ability to be an everyday player.

01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament William is a high energy guy who leaves it all on the field. He continues to progress and showed well again during his time at the Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament in Arizona. At the plate, this righty is a patient hitter and a leadoff type by the way he consistently gets on base (drew 4 walks at the event). He displays an athletic setup with centered balance and loose/comfortable hands in his setup. Barrel is delivered through the zone quickly with whip as he squares the ball up and hits line-drives back up the middle of the field. Defensively, Thompson maintains quick and active prep footwork moving fluidly right to left around the groundball. Hands are presented out in front and he tracks to ball into a soft mitt. DP turns are efficient as he gets rid of it quickly. This athletic MIF possesses the tools that will translate well into the next level of play.

10/17/2018 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic William continues to show as a prospect on the diamond with improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a superior runner at 6.78. At the plate, hitting abilities have improved, now showing well above average hitting / power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a plus feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. At 2B, he continues to shine, displaying smooth / clean actions. He attacks ground balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally, covering a lot of ground, and displays a solid backhand. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with zip (84 mph velocity) to his target. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great attitude and is very coachable as he works hard to be the best player he can be.

07/18/2018 - Under Armour Southwest Championships 16U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One William continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 6.95 runner. In the MIF, defensive abilities are now outstanding as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft and presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on his throws. He will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Mental makeup may be his best tool as he plays the game the right way.

12/27/2017 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic (Ages 14-18) William continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an outstanding runner at 6.99. At 2B, he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active / aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Hands are soft / sure and presents out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate he shows an open setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to get stride foot down sooner to work on time. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard.

06/17/2017 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) William continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he has improved the most, through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, (80 mph exit velocity) generating bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball exploding off the bat centered as he works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Defensively, he attacks balls, plays through well, and presents soft / sure hands out front. He gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy across the diamond. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

07/10/2016 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 1 William continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 2B, defensive abilities have improved, displaying smooth actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and squares up well with his body. Hands are clean as he presents on time and out front. He shows off his athletic ability on his turns / feeds of the double play. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on his throws. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through an uphill swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will continue to improve as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. At the event, he was 1 for 3 with a HR. With 4 years to further develop, William has the makings of a special type player as he continues to progress.

01/31/2016 - College PREP - Kapolei (Honolulu), HI William is a young/athletic MIF who continues to develop. With the bat, this righty stands in with centered balance and quiet/simple actions. He swings on a level path, connects and drives the ball back up the middle of the field. Creating more extension through contact along with engaging more of his lower 1/2 will help to increase power at the plate. Defensively, William shows active footwork moving well around the GB from right to left. He makes the plays with soft/sure hands, gathers well and works through the ball toward his target at 1B. This 2020 grad has a bright future ahead of him in the game.

11/05/2015 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition in Arizona (Ages 12-14) William is a hard worker who brings a positive attitude to the field everyday. He is very coachable and hustles all over the field. With the bat, this righty shows a balanced setup with a solid base, as he waits for his pitch. He takes an aggressive hack, connects with strength and drives the ball back up the middle of the field. He creates extension through contact and hits line-drives. At 2B, William has active prep footwork and takes good angles to work around the GB. He is aggressive coming to get the ball, secures the GB with soft/sure handed and has a clean exchange to throw. Working from the ground-up and playing through the ball more will help to improve his abilities in the MIF. A 2020 grad - William has skills with still a ton of time to develop.

08/09/2015 - College PREP - Kapolei (Honolulu), HI William is a young 2B that is entering his 8th grade year this fall. Offensively, he showed an ability to hit from the ground up with good balance. He was direct with his bat path through the zone and got good extension out in front. His hands/hips were coordinated and he used the middle of the field with approach. Defensively, he made the routine plays and had a clean exchange to throw. Improving his arm strength will come with a long toss program and with physical maturity over the next couple of years. In all - William has a promising future ahead of him, especially with the bat.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
