01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Woody was at it again, competing as a 6'2/180 lbs backstop that doesn't just catch and throw, but also hits and hits for pop (96 mph exit velo). Offensively, he had good balance throughout his swing and got to his launch on-time, with his hands activated. He was loose through the zone with the barrel and worked with his hands & hips together to generate leverage and pop. He had good feel for the barrel and never got cheated, taking full hacks. Behind the plate, he played the game with easy actions and had good feet to throw, flashing pops in the 2.0-2.1 range. He was accurate to throw on the bag after receiving with a soft/sure glove and has a very high ceiling as he continues to fill his frame. All in all - Woody is an intriguing prospect that has a strong skill set.

10/07/2015 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic Woody is a hard working catcher who showed very well during his time in AZ. Behind the dish, he sits in well presenting a low target while maintaining good flexion/sway. Lateral quickness allows him to center pitches in the dirt, keeping the ball in front. Throws down to 2B are accurate with pop times remaining in the low 2's. As a hitter - Woody has a patient approach waiting for a pitch he likes. He hits the ball where it's pitched with the ability to use the entire field. Shortening his stride (avoiding to lunge) will help to hit off of a firm front side and engage his lower 1/2 - resulting in increased power. Woodruff is a solid all-around player that will make a great addition to a squad at the next level.

07/10/2015 - 2015 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National East Woody is a tall, athletic catcher that will graduate in 2016 with a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is above average as indicated by his 7.34 60 time. Behind the plate, pop times showed a range of 2.03-2.19. Throws display life, accuracy, and on line carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Receiving / blocking skills show as outstanding tools that will play at the next level. At the plate he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed through a direct / level swing path. He has strength in his swing and works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. The baseball explodes off the bat when centered, creating back spin. Woody will get looks from the top collegiate coaches and pro scouts with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
