01/12/2018 - 2018 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Xavier continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and is a prospect on the diamond. At the plate, power potential is now outstanding through a closed setup. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. In the OF, he continues to shine. He utilizes his quick/aggressive feet as he moves well laterally, displaying range as he covers a ton of ground. He displays smooth / clean actions with hands / feet working well together through the fielding process. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 71-75 mph with 10/4 shape breaking ball with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

02/20/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Brentwood (Long Island), NY Xavier has the makings of a special type player and he has really improved his baseball abilities. At the plate is where he has improved the most, now displaying outstanding hitting abilities with well above average power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He shows strength in his swing and a solid feel for the barrel showing gap-to-gap pop. In the OF, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth / athletic actions. He utilizes his feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles and utilizes two hands through the fielding process. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. With 3 years to further develop, Xavier will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to progress his game.

08/08/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Trenton, NJ Xavier continues to show improvements in his abilities on the mound. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate, hitting potential has improved through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He reads balls well off the bat and works to get behind balls, playing through with momentum to his target. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 75 mph. He shows a quick tempo and work through a repeatable delivery. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound.

01/15/2016 - Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Xavier continues to improve as he physically matures. Raw arm strength has increased 79MPH since we last saw him. Defensively, he showcased well working behind and through the baseball. His throws were on line and body stayed under control. He can continue to work on his overall foot speed which will improve his range and 60-time. Offensively, Xavier displayed good rhythm to his load. His hand action works well and he utilizes the middle of the field. Cruz can focus on keeping his head still through is swing to help improve vision. Being such a young player, Cruz has an excellent foundation to help him succeed at the next level.

07/14/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Xavier made great strides in his game since we last saw him in March. In the OF, he takes a quick first step and tracks down fly-balls to his right and left. He secures the ball, is sure handed and makes accurate throws into his target. Continuing to get reads off of the bat and work on getting quicker jumps/reads will help to take his defensive game to the next level. At the plate, Cruz shows a balanced setup while working back into a strong loaded position. He tracks pitches into the zone and waits for hit pitch. He has plus barrel accuracy and squares the ball up consistently. Firing the barrel on a shorter/more direct path will help to increase pop off of the barrel. Cruz also got on the mound and competed. Ball comes out of his hand a little deceptive, making it an uncomfortable at-bat for hitters. He works quickly and doesn't give them time to get settled. More lower 1/2 drive off of the rubber will help to tap into some added velocity on his FB. Only a 2020 grad - Xavier is a hard worker who still has a ton of time to develop his skills.

03/22/2015 - Interactive Video Program - Brentwood (Long Island), NY Xavier is a young (5'8"/130) 2-way player as a OF/RHP. In the OF, Cruz shows quick footwork with athletic actions. He secures the fly-ball at its highest point, gathers well and has a clean exchange to throw. With the bat, this RHH displays a square setup with good balance. He swings on a level path and squares the ball up. He engages his lower 1/2 and drives the ball. On the mound, Xavier has a 3-pitch mix coming from a high 3/4 arm slot. He works to a controlled balance point, maintains level shoulders and works in-line toward the dish. Arm works freely as his FB ranges from 66-73 mph. He keeps it down in the zone and throws it for strikes consistently. Breaking ball has 9/3 shape with gradual action. Changeup has late run (61-63 mph) as it is his best off-speed pitch. Overall abilities will improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Crow hop
2. Routes/Angles
Offense
1. Contact points
2. Extension through contact
Pitching
1. Arm strength (long toss)
2. Breaking ball release point

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
