07/05/2018 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Xavier continues to show steady progress in his baseball abilities. In the OF, he displays smooth / fluid actions. He utilizes his quick feet in covering a lot of ground and makes the routine plays. He shows good game awareness and does a nice job of backing up bases. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. At the event, he was 2 for 6 with a 2B. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 65-66 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

01/21/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Kapolei (Honolulu), HI Xavier is an athletic, 2-way player with long legs. In the OF, Xavier has good range, efficient footwork, and soft hands. He has a good glove angle on ground balls, his exchange is clean, and throws with accuracy and carry to his target. On the mound, Xavier has a quick arm action, some direction toward home, and competes in the zone with his pitches. Offensively, Xavier has a tall set-up, good balance, and he swings in good rhythm. He has a flat bat path, hits hard to the pull side, and uses his lower body. Xavier can improve by working on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
