Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/LHPPosition Projection

09/18/2013 - Under Armour Fall Classic, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Zac is one of those players that every team needs - a leader with positive energy and strong communication skills. At first, he makes plays, has playable bag footwork and stays low to pick. He has a projectable build that should give way to future strength and added bat speed. Offensively, he shows a lot of upside with natural leverage and hands that work. On the bump, he threw three pitches for strikes, getting outs and competing. He repeated his delivery with a good tempo and was not afraid to throw to contact. In all - Schner brings life to the club and is talented enough to work his way to being an every day guy.

07/30/2013 - College PREP - Louisburg (Raleigh), NC Zac is a tall, thin, 2-way player with very good skills at 1B. Defensively, Zac has soft / sure hands, fluid footwork, and loose body actions. He moves well around the bag, he receives well, and he throws with accuracy from a long arm action to his target. Added arm strength will only help defense get better. At the plate, Zac has solid balance, a square set-up, and fast bat speed. He makes hard / consistent contact, he gets good extension through the ball, and it jumps off his bat. More lower body will help solid hitting get even better. On the mound, Zac has a long arm action, on-time separation, and level shoulders. He has good direction toward home and he throws strikes. Mound effectiveness can improve with a looser arm action, not falling off, and added velocity.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
