06/18/2012 - College PREP - Houston, TX Zach is a solid 2-way player as a C/3B. Defensively behind the plate, he has sure hands, good lateral movements when blocking, and a quick/clean exchange. He has quick footwork and will benefit if he can continue to increase his arm strength and stay low to throw. Defensively at 3B, he has playable footwork and shows good range to his glove side. He does well picking out the hop and his throws across the diamond show carry. Fielding further out in front with softer hands and having a smoother approach to the ball will help his defensive abilities at 3rd improve. At the plate, he displays a tall/open setup, solid load, and good balance. He gets good separation and has late explosion, spraying the ball to all fields. More lower 1/2 and more extension thru contact will help his hitting abilities improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
