As a hitter, this righty gets to a strong launch position and is ready to jump on first pitch FB's. Swing is short/compact to and through the zone as the ball jumps off of his barrel. Behind the dish, he maintains athletic actions with good flexion and sway. He is quick laterally, centering/deadening pitches in the dirt off of his chest. Throws to 2B are on the bag on a line. This Harvard commit has the tools that will should play immediately at the next level.

11/05/2016 - 2016 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Futures Texas Zach continues to further refine his game each time we see him. At the UA Futures Texas event he handled pitchers well, showing sure/strong hands and good feel behind the plate. He has a high baseball IQ which helps him while attacking hitters during the game and keeps him one step ahead of baserunners. His 6'3" frame is flexible letting him provide a good low target and allowing him to be efficient on balls in the dirt. At the plate Zach has a rhythmic, repeatable stroke with some leverage power. A physical leader at a premium position is what Zach brings to the table - making him a rare commodity.

Feet are active as he gains ground through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Arm strength is outstanding with throws displaying life, accuracy, and on line carry. He will control the running game with his feet / arm. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At 3B, he utilizes his quick feet well in his lateral movement, displaying range. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process as he makes all the plays. Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
