Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

01/14/2022 - 2022 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament (FL) Zach is a class of 2023 1B/RHP prospect. At the plate, he showed good balance throughout his swing. Had a very good lower ½ throughout the swing. Consistently barreled the baseball and had exit velos up to 88 MPH. Recorded multiple hits in game action. On the mound, he worked up to 85 MPH with his fastball. Flashed good feel for both of his secondary offerings. Showed clean mechanics and a loose arm action. Zach is a well-rounded player that we hope to see again.

09/23/2020 - Arizona Sophomore Fall Classic Zach continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. At 3B, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick (91 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 82-86 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late / sharp break and shows as a quality pitch that will get outs.

01/17/2020 - 2020 Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Zach continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. At 3B, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft /sure and he presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he continues to shine through an open setup. Hands are quick (87 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields well through a line drive approach. On the mound, he displays a sound / repeatable delivery, working in line and on time allowing his arm to work loose / free to the plate. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 81 mph. Fastball showed a range of 76-81 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

12/27/2019 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Zach is an athletic 2-way prospect that works hard and is eager to learn. On the bump, Zach competes on every pitch and has confidence in his abilities. He cuts his fastball, he has a tight breaking ball, and has some feel for his changeup. He gather over the rubber, he separates on time, and rides his backside downhill. At the hot corner, Zach fields the ball in an athletic position and consistently makes the routine play. He needs to continue to be on time with his prep step, present a low/early glove, and play through the ball. At the plate, Zach starts in an open stance, he loads his hands back, and gets to balance with his lower half. He has fast hands and shows pull side power. He needs to continue to attack the inside part of the ball and create backside drive with his lower half. Zach will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

07/28/2019 - Accelerated College PREP - Washington, DC Zach is an athletic 3B/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2023. In the field, Zach shows quick footwork and attacks the ball aggressively. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws consistently on-line to his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a square stride. He is smooth getting into his load and hits against a strong front side. He takes a direct swing with explosive bat speed (88 mph exit velocity one of the best we have seen in his grad class), leading to consistent gap to gap pop. On the mound, Zach gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and extends through his release, staying inline towards the plate. He shows a three pitch mix with his breaking ball showing sharp 11-5 break. Splitter has good downward action. Overall, Zach is a talented prospect who will find success going into his freshman season. He is one to watch.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
