Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Zach continues to show a promising future on the diamond. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are soft / sure and he showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. Feet / hands work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (87 mph exit velocity) generating bat speed through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a plus feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 79-81 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for pitch. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs. Control is well above average as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Zach has a ton of potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

10/10/2018 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic Zach is a hardworking and coachable 2019 2-way prospect. At the hot corner, Zach is aggressive to the ball and makes plays. Continuing to practice game like throws in his throwing program will increase his ability to throw from multiple arm angles and on the run. At the plate, Zach starts in an open stance, he loads his hands back into the launch position, and attacks the inside part of the ball. He stays balanced through contact and keeps a quiet head. His power has been a tremendous skill set for him both times we have seen him and he showed this in Arizona as well. We had his exit velocity at 88 mph off the tee. He can continue to create backside rotation with his lower half to help generate even more power. On the bump, Zach gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and works north to south. He showed the ability to pound the bottom half of the zone with his fastball, and create swing and misses with his breaking ball in game. He has the frame to be a successful pitcher as well at 6'4, 225. Zach is a solid prospect and should generate some buzz his senior year.

09/16/2018 - College PREP - Parkville (Kansas City), MO Zach is a thick, solid RHP/1B who has a tremendous future on the diamond. At the plate, he displays well above average hitting / power potential through a tall, open setup. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. At 1B, defensive abilities are well above as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is soft and presents well out front. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls through a low approach. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws display accuracy and zip to his target as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 79-80 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Zach has a lot of potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
