Official Scouting Report

04/28/2024 - National Showcase - Rosemont (Chicago), IL Zach continues to show as a prospect with improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.28 runner. At the plate is where he has improved the most, now displaying outstanding hitting abilities with well above average power potential through an athletic, squared setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn. At 1B, defensive abilities are solid as he shows smooth / fluid actions. He displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is clean and presents out front. In the OF, feet are active as he works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. He utilizes his foot quickness in covering a lot of ground. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program.

12/27/2023 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Zach continues to impress with improvements in his baseball abilities at the Pirate City Christmas tournament. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. He moves well laterally with range improving as he increases foot quickness. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a solid approach and creates extension through the ball. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At the event, he was 2 for 4 with a 2B and 3B. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

09/24/2023 - National Showcase - Rosemont (Chicago), IL Zach is a tall and solid 6ft/200 OF/1B in the 2025 class. In the outfield, his feet are in sync with his body and covers his defensive zone well. He works behind the baseball and takes positive routes and creates good angles. Has pocket feel with clean redirections. Arm action is short and quick and uses an excellent crow hop actions to make accurate feeds. Working to follow his throw will create more carry and less stress on his arm. On the dirt, he shows great footwork around the bag and is a solid target for his defenders. Likes to play low to the ground and generates attack angles with a quick 1st step. At the plate, he shows a quick bat (90 exit velo) by using a short and direct path. Hands are strong through the zone and creates gap-to-gap production. Zach is a must follow in the 2025 class.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
