06/13/2011 - College PREP - Charleston, WV Zach is a broad two-way player on the mound as a LHP plus at 1B and will graduate in 2012. Currently, he projects best at 1B for the next level. Foot speed is solid as indicated by his 7.25 60 time. He displays proper footwork around the bag with loose actions. Hands are soft, clean and sure displaying a plus glove action that shows the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. Throws show carry and accuracy but will benefit by getting on a long toss program to aid in building more arm strength plus raising velocities. Offensively, Mullins shows a balanced approach with quick hands working through a level swing path. Power is best to the pull side due to long swing path with barrel getting out around the ball. For hitting grades to improve, he needs to work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 75-77 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball is best off speed pitch, displaying 2/8 shape with gradual break but flashes sharp break when he stays on top. Changeup shows average feel for and slows arm speed tipping off pitch. He attacks hitters as he throws strikes with all pitches. Zach has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the college coaches with his abilities at 1B and the plate.
