02/28/2016 - College PREP - Sioux Falls, SD Zach is a lean OF/LHP who will graduate in 2018 with a promising future on the diamond. In the OF, he uses his feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls through an aggressive approach. He covers a lot of ground, displaying range. Hands / feet work well together and he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on his throws. At the plate he shows a squared / athletic setup. Hands are loose and work to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He shows a feel for the barrel and works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. On the mound, fastball shows a range 0f 70-75 mph. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. With 3 years to further develop, Zach has a lot of potential with time and room to continue to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
