01/13/2017 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Zach continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. In the MIF, defensive abilities are now outstanding, displaying quick / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Hands are soft / clean and he presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. At the plate, hands are quick and work through an aggressive approach. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach and shows a solid leadoff type hitter. On the mound, he displays a sound / repeatable delivery, working in line and on time allowing his arm to work loose / free to the plate. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity of 80 mph. Fastball showed good tailing action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with tail. Control is well above average as he throws strikes with all his pitches and attacks hitters, working to get ahead. He shows good composure and competes on the mound. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

03/13/2016 - College PREP - Indianapolis, IN Zach showed only at SS at the event and continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an outstanding runner at 6.97. In the MIF, defensive abilities are now well above average, displaying smooth / fluid actions. Feet are athletic as he works around balls and presents glove well out front through a low approach. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on his throws. He shows off his athletic abilities on his backhand play. At the plate, hands are quick, generating solid whip action through the point of contact. He shows plus barrel accuracy and works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through an aggressive approach.

03/08/2015 - National Tryout - Indianapolis, IN Zach showed his best measurables to date at his his most recent Baseball Factory outing. Defensively, he worked his feet pre-pitch and got to a good fielding position on-time. He was sure with the glove and had a clean exchange to play through and throw with accuracy. Offensively, he was aggressive to deliver the barrel after getting into a good hitting position with his hands activated. He was able to accelerate the barrel through the zone and with a more consistent, compact load, will hit with greater barrel accuracy. All in all - Zach is an intriguing player that has another two years to strengthen and develop his game.

09/07/2014 - National Tryout - Indianapolis, IN Zach showed only at 2B at the event and continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 2B, he works to get around balls, displaying clean hands. He moves well laterally, flashing range in the MIF. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he attacks balls more, plays through while presenting hands more out front, and continue to increase foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a squared / balanced setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball and uses the middle of the field well. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to get stride foot down sooner to work on time. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more and adds overall body strength.

06/14/2014 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 Orn continues to show at 2B but did show on the mound for the first time. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. He moves well laterally and flashes range in the MIF. Hands are clean but needs to present more out front to continue to improve defensive grade. At the plate, he shows good rhythm with good balance. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He will put the ball in play and makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. At the event, he has a solid week going 3 for 9. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 69-70 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength and works to throw more strikes.

03/16/2014 - College PREP - Indianapolis, IN Zach is a freshman 2B that hits from the left side. Offensively, he gets activated in his launch, has good balance, and takes aggressive hacks. He has a level barrel and is coordinated with his hands and hips. Smoothing his actions, becoming more controlled to launch and then explosive through the zone with the barrel will allow for more barrel accuracy and bat speed. Defensively, he has good pre-pitch footwork, good body control and sure hands to field. He has a tendency to get deep with the glove, and should fight for more consistency in front. In all - Zach projects well as a MIF that can hit from the left side.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
