Official Scouting Report

08/07/2016 - College PREP - Dublin (Columbus), OH Zach is an athletic SS who impressed scouts with his overall play and speed (7.12 60 yard dash). Offensively, he shows a balanced/athletic setup with a stride and load that are well timed and a still head throughout his swing which resulted in consistent line drives up the middle. Defensively, he shows fluid actions with a plus arm, playing with low approach that allows for his glove to stay out in front to field ground balls cleanly. Already a polished player, Zach shows the skills to play at the next level.

09/30/2015 - Arizona Freshman/Sophomore Fall Classic Zach continues to show in the MIF with steady play in his baseball abilities. He ran his best 60 time to date as he continues to increase foot quickness and moves well laterally. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process as he presents glove well out front. At the plate, he shows an aggressive approach with hands working through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to keep hands inside the ball to use all fields and creates a better 2 strike approach. Power numbers will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. At the event, he was 2 for 6 with 2 BB. Mental makeup continues to show as a plus tool as he plays with high energy and is very coachable.

08/02/2015 - National Tryout Plus - Dublin (Columbus), OH Zach is a smooth fielding SS who shows well during his latest tryout. In the MIF, he shows quick/active footwork and moves well around the GB. He works from right to left, funnels smoothly and has a quick release, firing the ball accurately to 1B. As a hitter, this righty has a balanced/athletic setup with rhythm in his hands. He takes an aggressive hack and barrels the ball up consistently, driving it on a line. Only a 2018 grad - Zach is a talented prospect who will make an impact on the diamond over the next few years.

11/06/2014 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Zach showed at SS and on the mound for the first time but currently projects best in the OF for the next level. At SS, feet are active as he squares balls up, displaying clean hands as he makes the routine plays. He shows off his athletic abilities on his backhand play. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he attacks balls, playing through, and increase foot quickness. Throws display accuracy but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program and work to get rid of the ball quicker. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path through an aggressive approach. He works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more efficiently. At the event, he was 1 for 3 with a BB and SAC fly. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 66-69 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Stock on mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength, develop better off speed stuff and throws more strikes. Mental makeup is a plus as he plays with a lot of energy and is very coachable, working hard to be the best player he can be.

08/03/2014 - National Tryout - Dublin (Columbus), OH Zach continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Defensive grade at SS have really improved, now showing solid abilities as he displays clean / smooth actions. He attacks ground balls with his feet and plays through well with his body. Hands are clean but needs to present more out front and increase foot quickness to continue to improve defensive grade. Throws are accurate as he gets rid of the baseball quickly but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he has improved hitting / power grade as well through an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through ha level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more.

09/01/2012 - Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (Commuter) (Ages 12-14) Zach is a young athletic player that showed the ability to make good adjustments. Day 1, Zach struggled with his timing and gaining ground with his front foot and body weight. He would load and keep his weight on his backside. On Day 2, Zach made a major adjustment gaining ground with his front foot allowing his body to get centered. This was huge because it allowed his lower half to work stronger and not spin. Zach showed a good feel for his barrel with good hand action. The next thing for him would be making sure he lets the ball travel deeper, trusting that his hands will get to the ball without reaching. Making the type of adjustment Zach made is difficult but he overcame it and really focused on getting better. With that type of aptitude and the willingness to listen he should turn out to be a special player at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
