Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2B/OFPosition Projection

01/14/2022 - 2022 Baseball Factory Pre-Season Prospects Tournament (MS) Zach is a hustling 2B/OF in the class of 2026 out of Montesano, WA. At 2B, he showed good athleticism by covering ground and fielded the ball with soft hands. He works through the baseball and can throw from multiple arm slots with carry to his target. At the plate, he is a switch hitter who tracks the ball well from both sides. He works to a firm front side with an on plane swing which allows for him to work his line drive approach. Zach is a good player who will continue to develop his game with time and hard work.

12/27/2020 - Baseball Factory East Coast Winter Classic Zach continues to shine on the diamond with his baseball abilities. At 2B, he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up. He needs to play through balls more with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Lower half works well into a firm front side. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

09/04/2020 - MS All-Region Tournament Zach is a young (2025 grad) 2B who excels defensively. At 2B, he has active prep and is aggressive to come and get the GB. He presents his mitt, tracks the ball into it and makes the plays with soft hands. Transfer is clean with accurate throws to 1B. Working on his approach to the GB (right to left) will help to get into a better position when fielding the GB. At the plate, this switch hitter currently shows very similarly from both sides. He remains simple in his setup with centered balance and fluid rhythm to load. Quick hands whip the barrel as he works to engage his lower 1/2. Continuing to add strength will come as he physically matures. Only a 2025 grad - Timmons has tools with still a ton of time to progress.

01/17/2020 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 12-14) Zach is a young, thin 2nd baseman with progressing skills. He is a confident, coachable player who works hard. Defensively, Zach has efficient footwork, athletic actions, and he fields athletically in a square position. He covers ground, tracks well to his glove, and throws with accuracy to his target. If Zach can improve his fielding position, and continue to add arm strength, abilities at 2B can improve. Offensively, Zach has an open/athletic stance, an activated load, and he swings on plane. He flashes some bat speed, he makes consistent contact, and he rotates his lower body through the ball. Added strength and extension will help improve hitting numbers.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
