Official Scouting Report

  • OF/LHPPosition Projection

12/20/2016 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 Zachary continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 74 mph. He shows a sound / repeatable delivery, working in line and on time allowing his arm to work loose / free to the plate. Fastball showed good sinking action. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Control is solid as he attacks hitters throwing strikes with all his pitches. He shows good composure and competes on the mound. Stock will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength. In the OF, he reads balls well off the bat and takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He is aggressive and shows good range. Feet are active as he works to get behind balls and plays through well with momentum to his target. At the plate, he shows a crouched setup with rhythm. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Mental makeup is outstanding as he plays hard, asks questions, and work very hard to be the best player he can be.

09/10/2016 - Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (Ages 14-18) Zachary sets up in an open stance and takes a square stride to the ball. This righty gets back into his load well and comes through the zone with his lower half which produces decent bat speed. He stays inside the ball as he takes a direct, on-plane route to the ball producing consistent contact and line drives to all fields. Staying back longer and working on a smoother rhythm will improve his timing at the plate. Overall, Zachary is a solid hitter and with two more years to develop he has the potential to further better his skills.

07/13/2016 - College PREP - Washington, DC Zachary is a lean LHP/OF who will graduate in 2018. In the OF, he utilizes his quick feet well in covering a lot of ground. He takes proper routes and angles in tracking down balls. Feet are aggressive in working to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Throws are accurate with carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate he shows an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a level, aggressive swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Power will continue to increase as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. On the mound, FB ranges has some movement and breaking ball has 2/8 shape with late break. Arm speed is maintained on changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. With 2 years to further develop, Zachary has abilities with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
