Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

07/07/2017 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition (Ages 12-14) Zachary showed at SS and on the mound for the first time at the event. He continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate is where he has improved the most through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will continue to improve as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. In the MIF, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and squares up well with his body. Hands are clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 51-54 mph with cutting action. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and is a great teammate.

05/21/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Glen Allen (Richmond), VA Zachary is a SS who will graduate in 2023. Defensively at SS, feet are active as he tries to work around the GB. He comes up with a clean exchange and makes accurate throws to his target. With the stick, this RHH displays an athletic/square setup with smooth rhythm to load. He uses a middle of the field approach, swinging on a direct path through the zone and consistently barrels up pitches in the zone. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Work from ground up
2. Develop soft glove
3. Be on time
Offense
1. Improve bat speed
2. More lower 1/2 drive
3. Extend through contact

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
