03/04/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Indianapolis, IN Zachary is a hard working and talented 2020 Catching prospect that continues to advance his skills. Behind the dish, Zachary has an athletic primary and secondary stance. He presents a big target and works behind the ball when receiving. He leads with his glove to block and controls the ball with his chest. He has a clean exchange and creates momentum in his footwork when throwing. At the plate, Zachary loads his hands back into the drive position and stays balanced through contact. He attacks the inside part of the ball and keeps a middle approach. Zachary will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see him continue his progress in the future.

03/05/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Indianapolis, IN Zachary continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a well above average runner at 7.06. Behind the plate, feet are active as he gains ground and works through a clean / transfer exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times showed in the 2.30 range. Time will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Hands are soft as he lets the ball travel and tracks well, sticking in the zone. He shows off his athletic abilities through the blocking process as he is a wall behind the dish. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup with rhythm. Hands are quick and works through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach.

09/25/2016 - College PREP - Indianapolis, IN Zachary is an athletic catching prospect who graduates in 2020. Zachary is impressive defensively behind the plate working with quick, active footwork allowing to stay square to the baseball at all times. He receives the ball athletically and presents a good target with clean exchange. Zachary throws with a short arm action over the top with consistent accuracy. His POP times to 2B ranged from 2.25-2.41 seconds. Offensively, Zachary has an open setup and leads with his lower half. He takes a good load with fluid rhythm and an on-plane bat path displaying above average bat speed. Zachary stays balanced throughout his swing and produced solid contact to each gap. Zachary has good upside in all areas of the game and is a prospect to follow.

12/20/2015 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 1 Zachary is a very talented catcher who has a solid all-around skill-set. He is a coachable player who brings his all every day. Behind the plate, he sits in with athletic actions tracking pitches into his mitt. He creates good angles laterally and centers pitches in the dirt off of a soft chest. Transfer is smooth as he has a strong arm and puts the ball accurately on the 2B bag. With the bat, McKenna shows a balanced setup with patience. He has fluid rhythm to load, swings on a level path and works to engage his lower 1/2. He hits the ball where it's pitched and drives it on a line (going 4 for 8 with 3 singles and a double at the event). Zachary is a gamer who has a very bright future ahead of him in the game.

09/06/2015 - Interactive Video Program - Indianapolis, IN Zachary is a young, 2-way player (C/OF) who can swing it. Offensively, this RHH shows an athletic setup with quiet/simple actions. Swing is quick as he connects with strength, driving through the ball and creating extension on his finish. Behind the plate, Zachary sits in well and tracks pitches into his mitt. He sticks the ball, framing well. Lateral footwork is quick as he gets around pitches in the dirt. Transfer/exchange is clean with accurate throws to 2B (pop times of 2.30). In the OF, he hustles and is aggressive to track down fly-balls. Exchange is clean with throws that show carry & accuracy into his target. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
