01/16/2015 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Zachary is a hard-nosed catcher who shows up to play every day. Behind the dish he tracks the ball well and receives with soft hands. He showed the proper blocking technique and he moves well laterally. His exchange is quick and he makes accurate throws with carry. At the plate he has an athletic stance, good balance, and he uses his lower half well. He is short to the ball and he keeps his hands inside. He can spray the ball to all fields and showcased gap to gap power during BP and games.

08/03/2014 - College PREP - Council Bluffs (Omaha), IA Zachary is an athletic, wiry catcher that will graduate in 2015. Behind the plate, pop times showed a range of 2.20-2.25 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to get rid of the baseball quickly. Receiving/blocking tools show as playable tools that will play at the next level as he continues to improve and gets more reps. At the plate he shows an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a compact swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to stay inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. Zachary has tools with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
