10/13/2019 - College PREP - Baltimore, MD Zachary is a lean, lanky catcher who has a bright future on the diamond. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line through a quick transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times showed in the 2.15 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He tracks balls well and sticks balls in the zone. He utilizes his body through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. Receiving / blocking skills are outstanding tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach with gap-to-gap pop. Power will continue to increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. With 2 years to further develop, Zachary has the makings of a special type player with time and room to progress his game.

10/12/2018 - College Recruiting Day - Columbia, MD Zach is a strong C prospect who will graduate in 2021. Behind the plate, Zach sets up in an athletic primary stance and receives with soft hands. He moves on time and centers the ball in the middle of his body when blocking. He replaces his feet to throw and keeps his throws accurate to 2B. Zach can improve defensively by quickening his exchange to throw. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He is fluid getting into his load and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a smooth swing with decent bat speed which leads to solid contact to his pull side. Shortening his swing path can help Zach improve as a hitter. With three more years to develop, Zach has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
