Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

01/17/2020 - 2020 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Zach is a tall 3B/RHP prospect who showed well at the Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament. In the field, Zach gets into a square position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and gains ground well on his throws, keeping them accurate with good backspin through his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance and takes a centered stride. He is controlled getting into his load and takes a smooth swing. He generates fast bat speed through the zone and produces solid line drives and gap to gap pop. On the mound, Zach gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and extends through his release, staying inline towards the plate. Zach shows a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 84mph. Breaking ball sits from 68-70mph with sharp 11-5 break. Overall, Zach is a talented prospect who has the skill set to contribute at the next level.

09/01/2019 - College PREP - Bel Air (Baltimore), MD Zachary continues to show improvements in his game and did so in Bel Air. He increased velocity to 83 MPH as well as exit velocity to 85 MPH. He is a projectable 2-way player who plays 3B and RHP. At 3rd base, Zachary has solid actions, active feet, and a presentable glove. He fields squarely, his exchange is clean, and he throws with a strong/accurate arm across the diamond. Continuing to quicken feet and add range will only help defense improve. On the mound, Zachary has good balance and a clean arm circle. He keeps his eyes on target, his CB shows late 11/5 break, and he throws strikes. More extension and finish, along with added command of off speed will help mound effectiveness get better. Zachary, Matthew has a tall/open stance, a short stride, and good balance. He has quick hands, he makes solid contact, and he hits from a firm/solid base.

06/07/2019 - College Recruiting Day - Columbia, MD Zach is a 3B/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2020. At the plate Zach shows explosiveness through the hips and hands. He hits the ball with force and has the ability to drive to all fields. In the field, Zach works through the ball getting momentum towards first base on his throw. If Zach works on being more athletic in the field, he could have greater success in reaching baseballs and getting the ball out sooner. On the mound Zach possesses a nice presence. This tall prospect finishes through his fastball and gains some tail at the end pumping in a range of 80-82 mph. He has a nice feel for control of the baseball on the mound. With his change-up, he tends to slow his arm down in the motion of the pitch as it gets over between 69-72 mph. He should finish the pitch more with a more natural arm delivery. With his slurve, he has a nice break to it in a nearly 12-6 ball motion over the plate which ranges between 62-65 mph. Zach is going to make a strong contribution to a college team after high school on both the mound and at the dish.

02/23/2019 - Mid Atlantic Regional Hitting Weekend (Ages 14-18) Zachary is an athletic and talented prospect that was eager to learn and made several adjustments throughout the weekend. At the plate, Zachary starts in a squared stance, has a simple load, and gets his front foot down on time. He has explosive bat speed and shows pull side pop. He needs to continue to attack the inside part of the ball, create backside drive with his lower half, and stay balanced throughout the swing. Continuing to back the ball up in the strike zone will improve his ability to hit the ball to all fields. Zachary will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in Philadelphia this spring.

11/05/2018 - College Recruiting Day - Columbia, MD Zach is a 3B prospect who will graduate in 2020. In the field, Zach shows efficient footwork and fields the ball out in front from a low position. He makes a clean exchange to throw and keeps his throws accurate with good backspin across the diamond. Zach can improve defensively by taking a better first step. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and drives his lower half through well. He takes a level swing with decent bat speed which leads to solid contact. Working a smoother load into his swing can help Zach improve as a hitter. Overall, Zach is a solid prospect who has the potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
