Official Scouting Report

  • RHP/OFPosition Projection

05/26/2018 - College PREP - Salt Lake City, UT Zack continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed is outstanding as he improved his 60 time, now a 6.99 runner. In the OF, defensive abilities are well above average as he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through well with momentum to his target. Glove action is soft and he presents well, utilizing two hands through the process. Range is a plus as he reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. Throws are accurate with zip and on line carry through his target. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are loose and work to and through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 76 mph. Fastball showed range of 74-76 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

08/02/2017 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Zack is a lean, athletic OF/RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best through a tall, open setup. Hands are quick and work through a compact swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing the whole field through a line drive approach. In the OF, he utilizes his athletic feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles and utilizes two hands well through the fielding process. He works to get behind balls playing through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 69-71 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for pitch with arm side run. Control is a plus as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard. With 2 years to further develop, Zack has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
