10/01/2014 - Arizona Freshman/Sophomore Fall Classic Zack continues to shine as a promising prospect for next level play. Defensively, he makes plays with sure hands in front and throws with present carry. Everything is connected, as he shows great instincts as a SS. He has good body control, ready hands, and proper footwork on his throws. He also very much looks the part and is very projectable as a result. Staying a bit lower during the throwing process will help aid in his reliability up the middle and will help his already solid defensive grade to improve. Offensively, he has good balance and coordination with his hands and hips to hit with some pop. He sprays the ball to all fields and works his hands well in the swing. He also has good bat speed and consistent barrel accuracy. When on the bases, Zack shows plus instincts. Becoming more consistent in his timing and improving pitch selection are ways that he can improve on his hitting grades. On the mound, he pounds the zone in/out, up/down, and works quickly. He is fluid with his arm action and extends through his front side well. His fastball topped out at 82 MPH, CB at 68-69, and CH at 69-70. In all - Zack is a great kid that has excellent potential--both as a SS and RHP--as he continues to grow and strengthen. He will be one to watch in the future, and he will make an excellent addition to a college program in a few years.

*****UPDATE, 3/1/15: Zack recently ran a 6.97 60 yard dash and 3.95 home to first at University of Pittsburgh camp*****

02/22/2014 - Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (Ages 12-14) Zack shows a ton of potential to be a very good ball player. He understands the game very well, and understands the proper adjustments needed in the swing. Zack has great size, and good power, but also displays very good hands, and the ability to put the baseball in play. He tends to double stride which causes the barrel to be late at times, if he widens his stance and separates, this should help the double stride.

12/27/2013 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic Zack is an athletic player with a high baseball IQ who showed a big upside at the Winter Classic. He was one of the top players at the event. As an infielder he displayed excellent quickness, body control, sure hands, good footwork and exchange. He is very advanced for his age and shows very polished defensive actions overall. He is also a great communicator on field and gets to everything near him. Improvement can be made by playing through the ball more and being a little quicker with his forehand. On the mound Zack showed smooth actions, a controlled balance point and good extension on his finish but he can improve by developing secondary pitches. He topped out at 73 mph already and could have a bright future on the mound as well as in the infield. At the plate Zack showed a great approach with direct hands and great extension on his finish. He has an advanced approach for his age with plus bat speed. He is a good enough hitter to be more selective with his pitch selection, and he needs to make sure his stride foot gets down on time. Zack has excellent potential and has an attitude to match. If he continues to polish his skills he will continue to be an absolute standout player in the future (and he already is now).

08/05/2013 - Interactive Video Program - Bear (Wilmington), DE Zack is a young SS/RHP that showed very well on the bump. With his FB, he hit 72 MPH with run, and he spun a CB with tight spin and 10/4 shape. He has an easy/compact delivery that is repeatable and he stays directional to the dish. At short, he is aggressive to come get, has soft hands and an accurate arm with carry. At the plate, he has quick hands, gets the barrel through the zone and is a good contact hitter. In all, Zack is a promising young player that should turn into a sound high school prospect.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
