03/08/2015 - National Tryout - Indianapolis, IN Zack continues to show as a consistent ball player on both sides of the baseball. Offensively, he has loose hands that he gets into a good hitting position in his launch. He delivers the barrel on a direct path to contact and gets extended through the ball. Defensively, he preps his feet pre-pitch and is aggressive to go get the ball in front. He gets to a good fielding position with his hands in front and is sure with the glove to secure the ball. He has upside with his arm, as he continues to long toss over the next year. In all - Zack is an intriguing player that has another year to improve and strengthen.

10/05/2014 - National Tryout - Sauget (St. Louis), IL Zack continues to show improvements in his foot speed, now a well above average runner at 7.07. He utilizes his quick feet well and is aggressive as takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process and he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on his throws. He needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with power numbers improving as he learns to use his lower half more.

08/04/2014 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Zack continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. He improved his foot speed at the event as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an above average runner at 7.25. In the OF, he utilizes his quick, athletic feet well in tracking down balls as he reads well off the bat and takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He needs to work to get behind balls more to play through with momentum to his target to continue to improve defensive grade. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, hitting grade has improved through a balanced setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through an aggressive swing path as he works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard.

07/06/2014 - College PREP - Sauget (St. Louis), IL Zack is a skilled OF who has a sure glove. In the OF, he takes a quick first step with aggressive routes/angles to the fly-ball. A clean exchange and fluid arm allow him to fire accurate throws into his target. With the bat, Zack shows a balanced approach with quiet actions. He tracks the ball into the zone and hits it where it's pitched, using the whole field. Getting into a loaded position sooner will help with contact consistency. Only a 2016 grad - Zack will continue to develop his skills over the next couple of years.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
