01/15/2016 - Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Zak is a very talented prospect who showed very well during his time in Florida. With the bat, this strong lefty stands in with an athletic setup, centered balance and rhythm in his hands. He has good zone awareness and doesn't swing at a pitch that he cannot crush (drawing 3 walks at the event). Hands are quick as he whips the barrel to and through the zone with speed. He hits the ball where it's pitched and sprays it to all parts of the field. In the OF, Zak puts his athleticism on display. He covers ground laterally, works behind the ball and plays through it well. Transfer/exchange is clean as he fires strong/accurate throws into his target.

11/01/2015 - National Tryout Plus - Vinton (Roanoke), VA Zak continues to show improvements at both his positions in the OF and on the mound with a promising future on the diamond. In the OF, foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an outstanding runner at 7.03. Defensive grade in the OF have improved as well as he reads balls well off the bat and utilizes his quick / athletic feet well in tracking down balls. He utilizes his lower half well through his crop hop as he gets behind and stays behind the baseball in getting rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, hitting grade have improved through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and works to stay inside the baseball, utilizing all fields. He is patient at the plate and shows as a typical lead off type hitter as he works the count. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 69 mph. Fastball showed good arm side run. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength and works to develop his command.

12/27/2014 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 Zak is an athletic two-way player OF/LHP. He shows lots of energy in the field and is always smiling, he is extremely competitive and wants to win. In the field Zak shows great closing speed and is constantly playing downhill in the outfield. He also shows a great transition to throw with great footwork, and fielding the baseball on his glove foot, limiting his time from field to throw. At the plate Zak is very balanced and fluid through the swing with great extension through contact. He shows the ability to use the entire body during the swing, giving him good pop in the barrel. On the bump Zak showed very well, with the ability to pitch effectively. He was able to throw three pitches effectively and throw two for strikes consistently. He throws a very heavy baseball, working down in the zone, with the baseball jumping out of his hand. Zak shows great potential on the mound with a good knowledge of pitching and a live arm.

05/11/2014 - Interactive Video Program - Ashland, VA Zak is a skilled 1B who can swing it. Offensively, this LH swinger shows a well balanced approach with good zone awareness. Barrel delivery is short/quick to and through the zone as he shows pop to his pull-side. At 1B, Zak is aggressive and comes to get the ground ball. He works around the bag well with active footwork. He fields the ball cleanly and can pick balls out of the dirt. Overall abilities will improve with work on the following.

Offense
1. Swing path
2. Extension
Defense
1. Arm strength
2. Footwork/agility

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
