03/30/2014 - National Tryout - Washington (Pittsburgh), PA Zakery has progressed well on the diamond. In the middle infield, he works around the ground ball and into an athletic fielding position. He tracks the ball into his mitt, gathers well, and works in-line toward 1B. At the plate, he shows a square approach with good balance. He squares the ball up and uses the middle of the field. Keeping his weight back and driving his lower 1/2 will help to increase power at the plate. A 2017 grad - Zak has a lot of time to develop his skills.

11/15/2012 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Zakery Leighty is a 2017 graduate who plays 2nd base. In the field Zak has an athletic fielding position, sure hands, active footwork, and agile range. He works around the ball well and plays through the ball gaining ground with his throws. At the plate he has a good set up, takes a short stride, and uses his lower half well. He has average bat speed for his age and makes consistent contact. He is aggressive at the plate and found barrel a lot during the camp games. Zak understands how to play the game and he plays it the right way and will continue to get better with experience and should be an impact player at the next level.

09/01/2012 - Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (Commuter) (Ages 12-14) Zakery is a strong and athletic player with a lot of potential. He shows quick twitch muscles and is very aggressive. Zakery has great wrist strength with a quick bat and line drive power. Zak displays consistent contact but has a tendency to get around the ball and hook it to the pull side. He can focus on staying inside the ball with his barrel and try to drive the ball up the middle and to the opposite field. If he can stay inside, pulling the ball will come natural and will not loose any power to the pull side. His load is very aggressive which is great but make sure when he loads that he is not getting his weight out in front. Let the ball travel , instead of trying to go out and get the ball. With another year to develop before high school, Zak shows all of the ability to have success at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
