Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2B/RHPPosition Projection

06/22/2019 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Zane continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.19 runner. In the MIF, he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active as attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Glove action is soft / sure but needs to present more out front. At the plate, hitting abilities have improved through a squared setup. Hands are quick and works through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 75 mph. Fastball showed a range of 74-75 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Control is solid as he attacks hitters, mixes pitches well, and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

12/27/2018 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Zane is an athletic and hardworking 2021 2-way prospect with his energy. At 2B, Zane is on time with his prep step, he anticipates the ball off the bat, and is aggressive to the ball. He has a clean exchange and good footwork on double plays. He needs to continue to build arm strength and improve his first step to the ball. At the plate, Zane starts in a tall stance, has an active load, and makes consistent contact. He has a middle approach and looks to use the whole field. He needs to continue to attack the inside part of the ball, create backside drive with his lower half, and be on time for the fastball. On the bump, Zane commands the strike zone and has good tempo in his delivery. He gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and works north to south in his delivery. He sinks his fastball, has a tight spin on his curveball, and has some feel for the changeup. Zane will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

07/25/2018 - College PREP - Avon (Cleveland), OH Zane is a solid RHP/2B who will graduate in 2021. At 2B, he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active and he displays proper footwork but needs to play through balls more with his body. Glove action is soft /sure but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he improves and he increases foot quickness. At the plate he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 71-74 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 3/9 shape with across break. Changeup shows sinking action but slows arm speed, tipping off pitch to hitters. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 3 years to further develop, Zane has abilities with a lot of room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
